A very intriguing oil on canvas-board painting with OLSoS Sumner on the back, which stands for "Our Lady Star of the Sea, Sumner" which is the church present in the painting.
The abstract nature of this artwork is very reminiscent of the landscape-style of the mid-20th century of a number of significant NZ artists.
In looking closely at the painting it is possible a faded signature is present in the yellow at bottom right (see photos) or it is also possible a signature exists but hidden by the >1cm frame overhang of the canvas-board.
The visible artwork measures 38cm by 29cm and is in good condition, whereas the frame has a few minor marks.
I am setting the price allowing for the investment potential, should it prove to be the work of a significant painter. Irrespective the quality of the work is evident.
I particularly appreciate the rich colours and composition and the 'animate/human' cross on the church rooftop which seems to be matched by a green 'shadow' on the ground, bottom left, which portrays even more movement potential.
